Bunchberry Beadwork

Alex Antle is a L’nu beadwork artist who has been practicing since 2017. A member of Qalipu First Nation and located in Elmastukwek, Ktaqmkuk (Bay of Islands, Newfoundland), Alex’s practice began as a way to build a stronger connection to her Mi’kmaw heritage. Alex creates wearable art in the form of jewellery, particularly earrings, larger applique beadwork and loom pieces.

In much of her work, Alex explores the relationship between tradition and living culture, using traditional methods of beadwork to create contemporary pieces of artwork that are inspired by current events and evolving Mi’kmaq culture.
