A unique blend of home comforts in the Bay of Islands with both catered and self-catered accommodation. The Olde Brake House Museum has a design typical of the period, with posts and beams sawed by a pit saw, and bay windows facing the water. All the furniture pieces are original artifacts, many crafted by renowned Newfoundland furniture maker William Winter. The museum is housed in the same original structure that his ancestors occupied in the 1800s, with all 10 rooms frozen in time as if a member of the family had just left them.

We have self-catered accommodation in our living museum house and can hold 12 guests and are ideal for a family or small groups. The Brake House is the ideal place to unwind, refresh and refocus. Many visitors regard The Brake House a home away from home and we pride ourselves in making everyone feel welcome.
Group Events
Use us for workshops, conferences, away days, retreats and intimate wedding parties of 40 and under. Whether inside our elegant Museum House or outside in the beautiful grounds on the Humber Arm overlooking the Blow Me Down Mountains. It’s the perfect place for birthdays, anniversaries, reunions and parties.
